Boo Mail - What Runners Have to Say

My initial mile was a 6:18, but I ended up with a about a 32:30. I'm thinking that I did about 4.5 when it was all said and done. I'm looking at it as good training for Bill's Beer Run on the 31st.

The race itself is fun, and all the festivities following. Overall, it's a great experience and supports the community. My thanks to you and all who put it together. I'm looking forward to next year.

Take care, Carl

Hi! I ran in Boo 2 last weekend, and several people have told me that I placed in my age group. Can I still claim my prize?

And by the way, I love Boo Run! I did last year’s also, and I must tell you that your run is one of my favorites. Your volunteers and race coordinators are a friendly, enthusiastic bunch of people, and the whole atmosphere of Boo Run is fun, fun, fun! Your goodie bags are packed with great stuff for runners.

And here’s my take on the mix up with this years 5K course: I ran an extra mile! Good for me!

I know some people were very upset about it, and were very vocal with their complaints, but forget about them. Isn’t running an extra mile something that we should be happy about? Isn’t that one of the goals of exercise – to do one more mile? I was tickled pink that somebody tricked me into running an extra mile. I wish somebody would do that to me all the time!

It was nice of you to offer everybody free registration for next year’s race. I definitely plan on running next year, but I will happily pay my full registration fee. Keep up the good work!

Jill

The Boo Run was fantastic! What a great turnout and your people are so very friendly.

I just wanted to share with you that this was my first 5K. I had a great time and thought it was put together well.

My only suggestion, though, is to clearly mark which was the 5K and which is the 10K. At some point in our run, several of us made a wrong turn and ended up on the 10K track. So that, obviously, threw off my time and I ran further than intended. I was number XXX and my husband was XXX.

We plan on doing another run in November with other friends as well. So our group is growing.

Thanks for a fun time and for a great cause!

Carol

My name is Shannon Walsh and I am a 16 years old at LRHS. I was at your race Saturday volunteering with the Key Club. My mom ran the race.

As she was coming in the finish line I overheard alot of rude comments being said because some of the 5K runners weren't directed properly.

I thought and my mom thought that your race was one of the best we have been to. It was almost like a carnival. I run CC for the high school and would have run the 10K if I knew you had that race as well just for training.

I created a program called PAWS (Pet Awareness for Seniors) and put together 2-5K races in the last two years. It is hard work and I know mine wasn't at all like your race. A lot of sponsors I tried to get dismissed me because of my age. I did manage to make almost $3,000, so I am not complaining. My last race scheduled in August got postponed because of Hurricane Charley and I got several nasty e-mails. I postponed the race Friday, because the hurricane was heading right for us. It was beautiful that Saturday the day my race was scheduled, but we didn't know that the hurricane was going to hit Port Charlotte.

I just wanted to let you know my feelings about the Boo Run.

All of these races are for charity and people forget that. If I can help next year, please let me know.

I did not get to do the Boo Run last year, so I was very excited to be able to go this year. I was most impressed with the whole registration, announcing, post race, sponsor areas. The music was great and the race announcements could be heard way down Lorraine Road. You and the LRRC did a great job today, so don't let the 5K make you forget how hard you worked and what a success today was...the goal being raising money for Dream Oaks.

Thank you to the Lakewood Ranch Running Club for a very enjoyable race.

I know there was a mix up somewhere on the 5K – but I still ended up with one of my fastest times (depending on how much extra we ran!). Perhaps next year instead of chalk on the street there could be signs on cones?

I ran the Disney 10K last week – the Boo Run was better organized and you were very generous with water and runner’s goodies. Way better than Disney!

The offer to run next year’s race at no charge is awesome. Thank you again for putting on a great race.

Duane

We had a great time. We would do it again!

I just wanted to let you know how impressed I was with the Boo Run. I am from Philadelphia and was visiting St. Pete for a wedding. I found your race info on Active.com.

I was so surprised at how well organized the race was. You had tons of food and awards and presented a festive atmosphere. The 10K course was well marked and manned with enthusiastic volunteers.

I heard that you are giving free entries for the 2005 Boo Run to the folks that participated in the 5K. I sure hope no one takes you up on your offer. Not only is the race for a good cause, you gave out hundreds of awards and door prizes, provided plenty of food and beverages and gave away a GREAT tee shirt. No participant walked away empty handed on Saturday. Well Done!!

Robin

I thoroughly enjoyed the 10K course Saturday, and all the awards related activity. I know the 5K will go better for you next year.

As a former race director, I know the feeling. I once put on a duathlon that crossed a set of railroad tracks on each of three loops. I had been assurred that no trains would be using the tracks, but on it came and the leaders had to wait for several minutes for the tracks to clear.
